“Kindness and confidence. I think those are the two most important things a woman should be — kind to herself and others.”

— Anna

Interview with Anna & Zhanna

Talk about your matching styles and how it started.

When Zhanna was little, she wanted to dress up like me, and now when she is older, I want to dress up like her.

— Anna

It was something we always had. I always saw you reading fashion magazines and I wanted to copy everything that you were doing. And I think even now when we match we still look a little bit different, which I think is very unique, so I find that really special!

— Zhanna

How you have influenced each other on your own individual fashion styles, what have you guys taught each other about style and fashion?

It doesn’t matter what you wear, it's more important how you wear it. And I learnt that from you! You can choose something simple, something basic but your mood, your personality can make it special.

— Anna

Its okay to not follow trends, and if you don’t look like everybody else, that’s not a bad thing, it’s a good thing, to be unique.

— Zhanna

What are the similarities and differences between your styles?

I always dress for the weather, she doesn’t! For example, if it's raining and you want to wear high heels that day – (she) will! I will not.

— Anna

I think a big difference for me is that you love accessories. And (she) wears a lot (of accessories). While I just have on minimal gold jewelleries.

— Zhanna

To Daughter: What is one thing about your mom you look up to?

I really look up to your continuous positivity. No matter the day, no matter how you’re actually feeling, you  will always have a smile on your and I really admire that because I personally can get very moody. She is just a ray of sunshine all the time, and I love that about you!

— Zhanna

To Mother: What is one thing of yourself you see in your daughter?

Anna: I see in her kindness and confidence!

Zhanna: And I got them from you!

“I’ve never met anyone as disciplined and mentally strong as my mum. It baffles me every day what she’s able to do with the pure power of will.”

— Kayla

Interview with Marlene & Kayla

Talk about your matching styles and how it started.

I think it started when Kayla was old enough to start borrowing my clothes around the age of 11-12. Since then her style has evolved a lot. She has always dressed like a tomboy though.

— Marlene

To be honest, our styles have always been very different. It’s just now the latest year or two that we’ve started to match and share clothes. I would say it all started about two years ago when I realized mom had quite an exciting wardrobe. I would mix and match her more “feminine/ elegant” pieces with my more “masculine/ baggy” clothes. I would say that’s how I found my style today. And just now this past year I’ve started noticing my mom exploring and rummaging through MY wardrobe instead. Something I could’ve never imagined. All of a sudden I see my mom wandering around the apartment with my, much to big, pants on, with a safety pin attached so they won’t fall off. And I’m all for it!

— Kayla

How you have influenced each other on your own individual fashion styles, what have you guys taught each other about style and fashion?

I find Kayla’s style interesting and refreshing. She buys mostly second hand (clothing) which she has opened up my eyes to. It’s easier to wear when you have a more oversized silhouette. Kayla is all in oversize and I like to balance it with a fitted top or bottom.

— Marlene

My mom owns a fashion brand so I’ve been influenced by her style my whole life. Although, I think during my early years I would try to rebel against it. I would wear big baggy t shirts and huge pants, meanwhile my mom was designing clothes for the royal family! As time went on my mom’s style became more casual and trendy, and that’s when I started to feel inspired by her style. Not only has she (my mom) influenced my style but she’s also taught me to dress sustainably and how we can always fight climate change, even through what we choose to wear.

— Kayla

What are the similarities and differences between your styles?

My style is a bit more feminine and Kayla’s is more tomboy.

— Marlene

Well this one’s quite easy. If my mom opts for the elegant, classy look, i’ll go for the messy, baggy one. In other words, i’ll go around looking like a bag all day and mom will look like she just stumbled out of a fashion magazine. But all jokes aside, I think the only major difference is the sizing of our clothes, otherwise we could pull of the same outfits.

— Kayla

To Daughter: What is one thing about your mom you look up to?

I can only choose one thing?! That’s going to be a tough one since the only right answer is everything. But one thing about my mom that I admire to the core is her discipline. I’ve never met anyone as disciplined and mentally strong as my mom. It baffles me everyday what she’s able to do with the pure power of will.

— Kayla

To Mother: What is one thing of yourself you see in your daughter?

When it comes to fashion, she loves travelling to places like New York, London and LA and she’s drawn to people with a cool, off beat personal style just like I have always been.

Otherwise we are both really into a healthy lifestyle and training. Kayla is aiming to be a professional tennis player and I was in the national team for rhythmic gymnastics.
